Dumbledore's Look of Triumph

Q: After Harry tells Dumbledore what happened in the Graveyard Harry sees a "gleam of something like triumph" in Dumbledores eyes. What's going on?

A: There is no way to tell right now, it will be revealed in one of the later books. There are some speculations: some believe it is a sign that

Arabella Figg and the old Crowd

Q: Is the Arabella Figg mentioned in Chapter 36 the same as the old Lady in HP1?

A: JKR confirmed in an interview that there is some link between the two, but did not say if they were one and the same person or simply just related.

Moody's Help for Harry

Q: If Moody/Barty was working for Voldemort all the time, why did he teach Harry to resist the Imperius Curse?

A: The best answer to this is that Barty had to act like the real Moody, possibly because Dumbledore called him probably to teach the students how to counter dark curses. (spec.)

Mother/Father or Wand Timing Mistake

Q: In Chapter 34 Harry's father appeared before his mother, but wasn't he killed before Harry's mother?

A: This is an error that was corrected in later editions.

The Riddle Mystery

Q: In CoS, Tom's mum is alleged to have died giving birth. But the openingbit in GoF has the Riddle family -- mum, dad, and son Tom -- being found dead one morning.

A: The Riddles found dead in GoF were Tom Riddle Sr. (Voldemort's father) and his parents.

Accio Egg

Q: Why didn't Harry simply use a summoning charm to summon the egg during the first Task of the Tournament?

A: There is no definitive answer to this Question, but you can pick one of these possiblilities (spec):

Portkey

Q: Why didnt the fake Moody just trick Potter into touching any old portkey, instead of making him go through the entire tournament?

A: There are a few, more or less probable explanations1. It's dramatic. And Voldemort loves drama. He'd love snatching Harry at his moment of triumph, in front of the whole wizarding world, right from under Dumbledore's nose. It would be both vengence and a psychological blow to his enemies, spreading fear and confusion and preparing the way for his return to power.

2. The Tri-Wizard cup could be an exception to a security measure at Hogwarts. With all the apparating restrictions there, it wouldn't make sense to allow portkeying on the grounds but not disapparating. Perhaps the Cup was a special portkey, approved by Dumbledore to bring the winner out of the maze and in front of the audience.
